Dildora also takes the time to answer questions based on each person's interests, including recommendations for restaurants and other things to see and visit. The pace of the tour was just right, not too fast nor too slow, and I liked that there were breaks where we sat down and just talked while we looked at the interesting things around us. This tour was part looking at beautiful, amazing architecture and design, and part learning about the history and sociopolitical landscape of Detroit. In summary: do it! And bring your friends and fam:)ĭildora was so incredibly knowledgeable about all things Detroit, and she shared her knowledge in a very conversational and personable style. I had figured my (and the other) teen would be bored and was prepared for the quiet drag, I was happily surprised that both stayed interested and engaged!ĭildora has an accent that takes some getting used to, but by the first stop your ears will adjust and you’ll be learning so much about Detroit! We started early with very pleasant temps and as it warmed we were ushered into some cool vestibules and there were even restroom/water/ food purchase opportunities.ģ. There were plenty of stops with seating, but none were too long. She doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable subjects of the past, but also doesn’t dwell on them.Ģ.
There are places that only Dildora can get you into, little stops w cool art tucked away, great photographs/murals to explain the area’s building…things you just couldn’t do on your own.Īdditionally Dildora is not a native Detroitan, which means she can see it through an outsider’s clearer lens, BUT and this is a big ‘but’ (I cannot lie): it is her Chosen Home for a long time now and it is clear she loves this city! (I probably should’ve been concerned with) Will my teen stay interested?īut I’ve been wanting to visit Detroit and see all the cool old buildings for 10-20yrs now and we finally made it! (So I was less concerned w my teen’s appreciation).ġ. Our group included our 3 family members (couple & a 15 year old) and another group that may have been 2 grandparents and adult daughter and her 14-year old. Dildora’s tour was well-paced, interesting, historical, balanced, and enjoyable.
